Charitable Solicitation Registration in Texas

Good News: Most nonprofits in Texas do NOT need to register for charitable solicitation.

GENERAL SOLICITATION REGISTRATION

- DEFAULT: Most charities and nonprofits are NOT required to register with

Texas state

1. LAW ENFORCEMENT TELEPHONE SOLICITATION ACT (LETSA)

Filing Agency: Office of the Attorney General

Who must register: Law enforcement-related charitable organizations engaging

in telephone solicitation

Registration requirements:

- File registration statement BEFORE 10th working day before solicitation

begins

- Registration expires: 15th day of 5th month after fiscal year end

- Renewal: Annual - file renewal statement on required form

- Content: Organization name, EIN, and any changes to previously submitted...

solicitors)

Fee: NEEDS VERIFICATION

3. VETERANS SOLICITATION ACT (VSA)

Filing Agency: Texas Secretary of State

Who must register: Veterans organizations

Requirements: File registration statement with Secretary of State, pay fee,

post surety bond (if using solicitors)

Fee: NEEDS VERIFICATION

- Registration with OAG or Secretary of State does NOT imply approval or

endorsement

- Organizations should consult directly with filing agencies for current fee

schedules and specific requirements

- Most charitable organizations DO NOT fall into these special solicitation

categories and have NO registration requirement
